CATBALOGAN City, Philippines—The Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) Samar Provincial Office assisted the National Coconut Farmers Registry System (NCFRS) registration of Samar Colleges, Inc. (SC) students’ families engaged in farming. The activity was held at the institution’s New Building, ground floor/lobby, on June 29, 2026, assisting a total of eighteen (18) families of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA)-enrolled students.
The registration process was facilitated by one of PCA-SPO’s Provincial Technical Staff, Ms. May Fabrigar, and SC’s Scholarship Programs Coordinator, Ms. Cherry Angelie Florentino.
The 18 successful family registrants will have the opportunity to attend the Information Caravan on the Scholarship Program for Coconut Farmers and their Families (CoScho) to be held at Eastern Samar State University (ESSU), Borongan City, Eastern Samar, on July 1, 2026, with Ms. Florentino, which will highlight essential information regarding the scholarship program’s eligibility and documentary requirements, application procedures, priority courses, and benefits.
In the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and PCA’s Joint Memorandum (Circular No. 1, Series of 2023) in establishing the CoScho, the NCFRS registration of their parents is one of the major requirements in order for students to be able to apply which made the PCA visit one of the many steps of CHED in making scholarship programs accessible to everyone.
The PCA is the government agency responsible for supporting coconut farmers and developing the coconut industry in the Philippines, thus, the agency which developed the NCFRS—a database made to identify legitimate coconut farmers in the country.
This activity underscores the importance of strengthening partnerships between educational institutions and government agencies in order to achieve a more sustainable education. Through initiative like this, SC and CHED continues to serve as a bridge that connects students’ families with programs that promote economic empowerment.
