CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines — Faculty members from the Elementary, Junior High School (JHS), and Senior High School (SHS) departments went hands-on with Samar Colleges, Inc.’s (SCI) digital learning tools as the Programs Development and Quality Assurance (PDQA) team presented the institution’s Moodle-based Learning Management System (LMS) and in-house Courseware during the first day of the Basic Education Department’s End of Term In-Service Training (INSET) 2026 at the SC Auditorium on September 10, 2026.

Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso, Senior Vice President (SVP) for PDQA, provided the rationale and overview of the day’s session, emphasizing the importance of equipping faculty members with digital tools that can support evolving teaching and learning needs.

Serving as the resource speaker was Ms. Yanie Mae C. Cordero, Chair of the SC AI Integration Technical Working Group (TWG) for Basic Education. She led the faculty members through the presentation and demonstration of the LMS and Courseware, followed by guided hands-on activities that allowed participants to navigate the platforms and explore their features and functions.

The morning session focused on the LMS, where faculty members were guided through its interface and key functions. They were given time to navigate the platform themselves, such as creating courses, enrolling students, adding activities, and the like, providing a firsthand experience of how an LMS can be used to organize and support different aspects of the learning process.

In the afternoon, the session shifted to SCI’s in-house Courseware, giving faculty members another opportunity to explore an institution-developed digital learning tool. Through the guided activities, participants examined the platform and considered how its resources could be used alongside their existing teaching strategies.

The hands-on activities also encouraged faculty members to look beyond simply learning how the platforms work and reflect on how digital tools can support pedagogy, improve the delivery of learning resources, and make instruction more responsive to learners’ needs.

Three faculty members—Mr. Eldrian P. Jaba (SHS), Ms. Jenefer S. Evasco (JHS), and Mr. Saldy Latorre (Elem)—likewise shared their impressions of the presented platforms and the day’s session. Their reflections provided an avenue to discuss the suggested improvements and the potential of the platforms in their respective teaching contexts and the ways these tools may be adapted to support classroom learning and even during class disruptions.

The day concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the PDQA team, recognizing the team members who served as resource persons and facilitated the day’s learning activities.

The activity forms part of SCI’s continuing efforts to advance digital innovation in teaching and learning by strengthening faculty members’ capacity to use institutional digital resources. It also supports the institution’s broader push toward teaching practices that extend learning beyond the traditional classroom and make purposeful use of technology.
