Faculty members of the College of Information Technology and Allied Sciences (CITAS) underwent a full-day workshop titled “Code to Curriculum: Structuring Syllabi for IT Education,” held on August 6, 2025, at Annex 4, New Building of Samar Colleges, Inc.

The activity forms part of preparations for the formal opening of tertiary classes on August 12, and aligns with Samar College’s efforts to standardize instruction through a unified, institutionalized OBE syllabus.

Ms. Lea Rondina, faculty member of CITAS, formally opened the event. In her message, she mentioned the need for intentional curriculum design that supports student outcomes and career readiness.

The entire day’s workshop was led by Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso, Senior Vice President for Programs Development and Quality Assurance (PDQA). She walked the participants through three key topics: the fundamentals and implementation of OBE, a walkthrough and hands-on workshop on the unified OBE Syllabus, and an overview of the Moodle-based Learning Management System (LMS), including new features such as gamification and the integration of Turnitin.

As part of the workshop, Mr. Fritz S. Remegio, a faculty member, presented his course syllabi that integrate CHED-recommended outcomes and competencies. He detailed how the lessons, activities, and assessments are carefully designed to prepare students for the demands of their future professions.

As the IT department plays an important role in innovation, Dr. Cardoso also introduced the faculty to the basics of the World’s Universities with Real Impact (WURI), encouraging them to contribute meaningfully to the institution’s aspirations for innovation-driven education.

Throughout the workshop, faculty members reviewed, restructured, and aligned their course syllabi to meet institutional and CHED standards, with emphasis on ensuring responsiveness to industry demands and digital-era competencies.

The session concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Pedrito G. Padilla, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. He praised the active participation of the IT faculty and reaffirmed the administration’s support in sustaining OBE practices throughout all departments.

This workshop follows a similar orientation session held for other academic units in recent weeks, underscoring the college’s continuing commitment to outcomes-based, industry aligned education as it welcomes a new academic year.
