Second-year Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) students of Samar Colleges, Inc. gained access to new scholarship opportunities through an information caravan conducted by the Department of Science and Technology–Science Education Institution (DOST-SEI) on May 5, 2025.

The event introduced the 2025 DOST-SEI Junior Level Science Scholarship (JLSS) Program, which aims to support deserving third-year college students pursuing degrees in science and technology. The scholarship intends to help strengthen the country’s pool of qualified S&T professionals essential for national development.

Since BSIT is among the DOST’s priority programs, qualified students from Samar Colleges, Inc. starting their third year are eligible to apply for the JLSS.

The orientation was facilitated by Ms. Shiela Mae Pica, Science Research Specialist II, and Ms. Renalyn Costo, Project Technical Aide V from DOST Regional Office, in partnership with the Office of Student Affairs and Services, through its OIC Dean, Mr. Jerick C. The session was attended by 47 second-year BSIT students eager to explore financial support options for their academic journey, accompanied by one of their faculty members, Mr. Harvey G. Venus.

The different types of scholarships under the JLSS were discussed in detail during the session. First, the Merit Scholarship, under Republic Act No. 2067, which is awarded to students with high aptitude in science and mathematics who are willing to pursue careers in the fields of science and technology. Lastly, RA 10612 Scholarship, under Republic Act No. 10612, is intended for graduates who wish to teach Science and Mathematics in secondary schools across the country.

Qualified scholars may receive up to ₱100,000.00 in financial assistance per semester from DOST-SEI, covering tuition fees, learning materials allowance, monthly stipends, and other education-related expenses.
