CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines — Kicking off a series of orientations, the office of the Programs Development and Quality Assurance (PDQA) of Samar Colleges conducted the first Learning Management System (LMS) session with the Basic Education Department on August 1, 2025. The whole-day activity was carried out in batches to accommodate Elementary, Junior High School (JHS), and Senior High School (SHS) faculty, aiming to standardize digital teaching and learning practices across the department.
The session was attended by Dr. Letecia R. Guerra, Senior Vice President for Basic Education, the three principals of the department: Mrs. Nicefora Rosario (Elementary), Ms. Vea Marie M. Quitalig (JHS), and Mrs. Evangeline G. Miranda (SHS), and their faculty members. They expressed their support for the initiative and commitment to guiding their faculty in integrating the LMS into classroom instruction.
Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso, Senior Vice President for PDQA, served as the resource speaker, leading the faculty through a discussion and demonstration of SC’s Moodle-based LMS. She highlighted how the platform streamlines lesson delivery, enhances student participation, and promotes flexibility in teaching and learning.
Dr. Cardoso also emphasized that while hard work remains essential, working smarter through innovation is key to greater productivity and growth. She encouraged teachers to view technology not as a burden but as a valuable tool to make lessons more manageable, engaging, and enjoyable.
With the guidance of the PDQA team, led by Dr. Cardoso and Mr. Peter Lee Lacanlale, OIC Director for the Information Systems and Support Office (ISSO), participants were able to explore and navigate the LMS. The orientation covered essential features such as course creation, uploading of materials, online quizzes, gamification, and tracking of student progress, among others.
Faculty members were also given the opportunity to showcase the activities they created within the LMS as part of the hands-on workshop. The whole session wrapped up with an open forum, where concerns were addressed and suggestions were gathered to ensure smoother LMS integration.
This orientation marked the first in a series of institution-wide sessions aimed at standardizing digital course delivery and strengthening Samar Colleges’ commitment to technology-driven, outcomes-based education.
