Samar Colleges organized a three-day seminar-workshop cum team building for its non-teaching personnel on August 15–17, 2025, at Bontemps Beach Resort, Northern Samar, with the theme “Empowering Excellence: Leadership, Teamwork, and Service for Non-Teaching Personnel.” This activity brought together seventy-seven (77) personnel for personal empowerment and enhanced organizational productivity.

In her rationale, Dr. Lydia A. Gonzales, Head of the Human Resource Management Department (HRMD), emphasized the indispensable role of non-teaching personnel in ensuring that day-to-day operations run smoothly. “The non-teaching personnel are the backbone of the institution,” she said, also adding that service excellence is a shared commitment. She encouraged participants to maximize the event as an opportunity to learn, reflect, and engage actively in the activities.

The first session featured Mr. Venuell B. Aying, PhilHealth Accounts Management Officer, who discussed “Managing Conflict and Handling Complaints”. He guided participants in addressing workplace concerns constructively and professionally to promote a healthier work environment. His session included interactive workshops and activities that tackled common issues and conflicts in offices, along with practical solutions to resolve them.

On the second day, Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso, Senior Vice President for Programs Development and Quality Assurance (PDQA), delivered a session on “Leadership, Teamwork, and Service.” Dr. Cardoso engaged participants with the results of their Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) Personality Test, discussing how diverse personalities contribute to effective workplace dynamics. She also introduced Rooke and Torbert’s Seven Action Logics and the Seven Transformations of Leadership, framing them as practical tools for leadership transformation.

In her closing message, Ms. Manuelilda Rosario A. Torrevillas, Senior Vice President for Administration, emphasized that leadership is not confined to position or title, but is a responsibility everyone shares. She reminded the participants that the contributions of administrative staff are as vital as those of teaching personnel.

In the afternoon of the second day, a series of team-building exercises was facilitated by the HRMD and the Office of the Guidance and Counselling Services. These activities were designed to strengthen collaboration and reinforce the value of working as one team.

The seminar-workshop cum team building is part of Samar Colleges’ commitment to professional development and welfare. The event concluded with participants expressing gratitude for the opportunity to reconnect, recharge, and recommit themselves to the institution’s shared mission and vision.
