Samar Colleges, Inc. proudly introduces one of its innovations: SC Hotel: An INNOLAB (Innovation and Learning Laboratory), a bold education-through-enterprise model that blends real-world learning, community service, and financial sustainability under one roof.

Located within the Samar Colleges campus, SC Hotel is more than just a place to stay. It is a fully operational training hotel that serves as a living classroom for Senior High School TVL learners, TESDA-funded SCTI cookery scholars, and College of Business Management students Here, students do not merely simulate hotel operations—they live them.

Learning Without Leaving Samar

For students in an island province with limited industries and high poverty incidence, completing internships in major cities often means added costs for rent, food, and transportation that many families cannot afford.

SC Hotel: An INNOLAB directly addresses this challenge by providing on-campus, real-world training, allowing students to complete their required practicum without leaving Samar. This setup saves families additional cost while ensuring that students gain industry-relevant experience.

Education Through Enterprise

What makes SC Hotel: An INNOLAB truly innovative is its dual function. While it trains students, it also operates as a self-sustaining business enterprise.

The hotel regularly accommodates guests during peak seasons, alumni homecomings, local events, and official visits. Revenue generated is reinvested into facility upgrades, training equipment, staff development, and institutional support. This helps Samar Colleges reduce reliance on tuition fees, which remain intentionally affordable.

Industry-Ready, Certification-Focused

SC Hotel: An INNOLAB supports TESDA NC II and NC III certification readiness, consistently achieving 95%–100% certification passing rates in cookery and related qualifications. Students train under the guidance of experienced hotel staff and faculty supervisors, ensuring both service quality and learning outcomes are met.

A Model for Sustainability and Social Impact

Beyond student training, the INNOLAB contributes to institutional resilience. It reduces operational costs by hosting official guests and Board related activities on campus, while also strengthening Samar Colleges’ long-term financial sustainability as a private HEI serving mostly financially challenged learners.

Planned expansions, including additional rooms and a future lobby café, aim to increase both training capacity and revenue, while laying the groundwork for future programs in related to Tourism and Hospitality Management.
